With apologies to Bob Kane and Bill Finger… I cobbled this cover pastiche together not long after I’d commenced the Bat Temp story arc, but somehow never found a good time to post it… As such now that we’re nearing the end of our fractious fable, seems we might as well get on with it…

As per the underlying blue penciled page – Seem’s it’s just a bit of a teaser for the comic calamity coming next time…

Ha! I remember when comic covers used to look like that… or was that a previous incarnation of myself? Anyway, it was a simpler time when simpler people read simpler things. Good was good and bad was bad and the concept of the cold blooded anti-hero had not yet made it’s way into comic world. I suppose it would be fair to say that The Batman was the first anti-hero although by 1930s-40s standards he was pretty darn heroic. The millionaire capitalist dedicating his life and fortune to the protection of his fellow citizens. A vigilante willing to break the law in order to stop those who were beyond the reach of the law. And if a few ruthless muggers got dropped off of buildings along the way what the heck?

Now, about this business of posting the cover after the story…

It at first seems totally foolish for our Bat-temp to bring in a baseball bat vs powerful handguns. From a range of something to something they totally rule the situation. But very close in the complete expert use of a hand weapon could have the reverse odds. Of course the one with the baseball bat can’t just stand there heroically, else all odds go back the other way.

She must be conducting a “Macho Attack” and the bad guys have obviously been macho-ed out and are now ripe for a drubbing. (Now let’s see how many early 90’s RPG players we have out there.)

It’s Not the bat, it’s the Boot to the Head, that leaves an impression on credulous crooks!

Ah well, I suppose this cover must be from the rarest of all Golden Age comix… limited to one issue… and one copy… Although, from the interior page, one wonders if Batz is now sufficiently humbled to demean himself by accepting that one remaining job… which, from the looks of the costume, must involve “temping” for Betty Boop…

Probably, judging by what Crunn is holding in the last panel. Does BG have the figure? It looks a bit small!

Just a heads-up Buckaroos, I’ve updated the November “Happy Tails” calendar on the evening of Nov. 8th…

    Bronco Bunny

It was pointed out to me that I’d messed up with Blondie’s wave – the position of her arm and hand would be difficult for someone even as supple as herself, so I have more or less corrected that… Just click on Bronco’s um… buns to take you to the download page…
